Common Sense Seeds is our family-run Canadian seed company based in Calgary. Our focus is growing tomatoes and other veggies that thrive in a short growing season and varieties that are not widely available in North America. We think it just makes sense to grow a few of your own veggies, and that’s the thinking behind our name.

Our goals:

1-To help home gardeners grow good food to scale. In other words, to help you grow as much food as you have the space and time for.

2-To help you contribute to your Nutrition Security. The term Nutrition Security recognizes nutrition as a state or condition that allows individuals to thrive. By home gardening you can make a big contribution to your Nutrition Security by growing the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients your body needs.

3-To promote and maintain seed diversity. We have a wonderful collection of diverse seeds from Canada and around the world. Some of our varieties are heirloom seeds that have been saved in backyard gardens across Canada and communities around the world. These are seeds that have stood the test of time (and faced climate, soil and pest variabilities). Other varieties we cherish have been developed by public breeding programs of the past. And still other varieties are forgotten gems tucked away in seed banks and government institutions. We are excited to share these seeds with you and make sure they get into as many hands as possible.

Our motto: Sow Seeds. Plant Joy. Eat Well.
